Integration Gone Wrong

Pros

Interesting projects with knowledgable coworkers

Cons

After merging with Bats, CBOE had decided its best course forward is to make everyone equally miserable. Scale back the benefits from one side while slapping the other side with insulting titles and zero paths forward. Don't seem to care about their employees as much as the bottom line. Your benefits don't matter and neither do your career prospects because your replaceable.

Best to avoid if you aren't the status quo

Pros

Free lunch, free gym, high salary.

Cons

There is a systemic culture issue at this company. They have a very particular 'culture' they are trying to maintain. That directly translates to a male-dominated, Christian-dominated, and white-dominated workforce. The Management doesn't respond to any criticism of their status-quo. In short, this place is emblematic of all that is wrong with both software and financial companies. Proceed with caution.

Pros

Good salary, some very sharp co-workers, decently located in regards to public transportation

Cons

This company rewards mediocrity, the environment is something from the early 80s (we're talking cubicles here!), the environment is not supportive for women or minorities in technology, it is very much 'Wolf of Wall Street' culture - you're either one of the 'good old boys' or you simply do not exist. the CEO calls the environment 'innovative' and is sadly being fed some bologna by upper management that has completely lost touch with their employees and its sad - he can't even see that his employees are laughing at him every single time he uses the word "innovative". There is not a single innovative person or thought in that company. Or if they get someone in who truly has great ideas - the motivation will be SUCKED out of them by the end of 2 years just because it will probably take that long to get even a PoC approval
