Zero support for professional development. Many limitations including denying access to conferences even on your own finances/time. Will be retaliated against if you are 'caught' attending conferences or workshops. Seems that they do not want knowledge-base to grow. Was not always this way, new leadership changes have dictated this.
Zero respect for salaried staff. Expected to work sun-up to sun-down. Some respect for full-time staff just because they'd have to pay you overtime if you stay late. Will not pay you for the time you work if you are sent BY THE ZOO to a conference or to help animals in need elsewhere. Makes no sense.
Retaliation-based culture. You can go to HR and feel 'heard' but actions aren't taken to educate curator(s)/general curator on how to be decent and competent leaders. Everyone scared of being fired for speaking up- because it has happened time and time again.
Animals are overworked and housed in unfavorable conditions. Animals were 'rescued' from 'Tiger King' type-conditions and are now in no better way-off and are subjected to living in small enclosures and with not enough keepers to care for them. Just to guests can 'meet a sloth' or some other random creature to get a selfie with.
Basic animal-care needs are dismissed and ignored. Keepers trying their best and are not given any time or resources. Keepers passion is being used against them.
You have too many animals. You don't have anywhere to put them. You don't hire enough keepers to take care of them. They are suffering.
Dr. Rob is charismatic and nice in person- but his policies and leadership style is killing the zoo.
